In this session, I will present activities and events that you can host in your school library to connect readers to books. I will discuss how to host a successful author visit. I will share tips and tricks to find authors that you can host as well as share a schedule for the day of the visit. I will discuss tips for preparing students and staff for the visit and of course share ways to pay for the visit. Other events that I will discuss include inviting guest speakers to speak to students. Speakers can range from archeologists, park rangers, to local historians. These visits can all be tied back into books. I will discuss collaborating with the CTE department to host a monthly Career Cafe and how this experience can then connect students to books. I will discuss other ways to connect with readers including hosting reading challenges and maintaining a free little library for the school and community. My presentation will include demonstration and discussions. I will provide access to various documents that I use to make connections with readers.
